AWARDS 2007-

This page is for awards for which either I have nominated a person or persons, or that I myself have earned. Unfortunately, I have not earned an award yet. Give me time I am working on it......

2007

In 2007, I nominated Dale Spindel and Karen Brodsky for the New Jersey Library Association Service Award. I have worked with them since I joined the NJLA PAC Sub-Committe concerned with salary matters in 2004. At that time and for several years afterward they served as very capable Co-Chairs of the Committee. They have served the NJ library community well and made great strides for establishing recommended minimum starting salaries. AT the 2007 NJLA Annual Conference in Long Branch, NJ Dale and Karen received this award.

2010

Awards.

2008

In 2008, I nominated Robin Martin for the Monmouth University "Dr. Martin Luther King Unsung Hero Award." Robin, is the tireless journalist who writes the "Our State Of Mind" column for  The Link News, a Long Branch, NJ weekly newspaper. She attends many events of interest to people in the multicultural community and reports on these and other items regularly in her column. She brings news to many who would normally be out of the communication loop. An excellent writer she deserved recognition for her work. In January 2008, Robin received this award.

2011

Awards

In 2011 I nominated Carl Jennings, the Recreation Department Head for the City of Long branch, New Jersey for the Monmouth University Martin Luther King Award. This award honors students who may have served well on campus; students who may have gone on to serve well in their communities; and honorable persons from the surrounding communities for work they have done over the years to honor the memory of past Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther KIng in the choice of this path of leadership in service and making a big difference in the lives of others by your volunteer service. I nominated carl Jennings for several reasons. One is that every year he chairs the martin Luther king Day ceremony and services in the City of Long Branch, New jersey. He  makes this a day of honor remembrance and service. mr. jennings himself has been a capable leader of the City of Long branch recreation Department for many years, overseeing the activites of youth in athletics and other activities after school. Every year he organizes a "Get ON the Bus" Historic Black Colleges Campus Tours for area youth thinking of college education. He has recently overseen the transfer and development of Manhassett Creek Park into a  recreation park for Long Branch. It is gorgeous. Every year he organizes a gift donation collection for area youth during holidays periods in November. carl jennings has always put Long Branch and the area youth ahead, wanting to care in peoples lives by doing good thing to lift the youth .

2009

This year I nominated L. Frank B. Blaisdell for the New Jersey Library Association award for the NJLA Library Champion. Mr. Blaisdell, of the Norwood Insurance Agency in Long Branch, NJ, has for the past ten years or more paid the cost of a full page ad in our local weekly newspaper The Link News. This page has allowed the library to once a month present news about the library services and events of note. In exchange for the add The Norwood Agency has a banner at the bottom of the page advertising their services to the community. It is a win win situation for everyone involved and helps us get the word out to the public about our activities. Mr. Blaisdell was indeed selected the winner of the NJLA Library Champion Award and a certificate was given to him during a ceremony at the NJLA Convention in April 2009.
